IRCTC PNR Enquiry – Helps Know Where You Stand in Railway Reservation

A train travel involves a lot of planning, right from checking for trains, the destination of interest, trains that ply on that route to checking for availability of tickets. Though a ticket can be booked 90 days in advance, our planning may not be so precise and we end up booking tickets at our convenience. This may not always guarantee confirmation of seats. In which case, you land up with Reservation against Cancellation (RAC) or wait listed tickets. In order to check if the status of the booking has changed, you need to check your PNR status.

The PNR number is a unique number printed on the top left-hand side of the ticket. All the information with respect to your booking is stored in the railway computer database against this number. You need to access the IRCTC PNR enquiry application on the Internet to get the ticket status.

This application is available on the IRCTC website and other travel portals. You can enter the 10-digit PNR number to get the latest information. The display will reflect all the changes made to the ticket wherein RAC tickets have got confirmed or wait listed tickets have become RAC.

The PNR status can also be known from mobile phones by sending SMS to specific railway phone numbers. Also, the smart phones with Android application help you to get this information directly from the IRCTC PNR enquiry website. Thus, the PNR number gives you the latest update of your reservation of tickets with Indian Railways.
